Message from the president

Thank you to all members for showing their confidence in re-electing me as President for 2010. I will again do my utmost to make this Legion one of the best in Canada. I also look forward to working with my new 1st Vice President Gary Harochaw and 2nd Vice President Bob Watling.

Welcome back to Senior Executive members and the new kid on the block Reg Ayres. Thanks to Donna Carriere for continuing with the Secretarial duties and Bill Bridges as Sergeant-at-Arms. Your continued support at the Legion is greatly appreciated. I extend a special thank you to everyone who served on the Executive Committee for 2009. This Legion would not be as popular as it is without the members, guests and volunteers. Thanks to all of you we had an awesome year!

West Kildonan Legion has a lot to offer our members, guests and the community. Many patrons have an opportunity to catch a few of the sun’s rays enjoying your favourite beverage (when weather permits) out on the patio. The main attraction to the Legion is the Dave Hillis clubroom where we have our Saturday afternoon meat draws, Bud & Spud Friday’s, dancing on Friday and Saturday evenings and much, much more. We also have 2 halls in the upper level for various functions. The Jim Doig Banquet hall accommodates up to 250 while the Darlington Lounge accommodates 80. The Darlington Lounge is usually reserved for member functions and meetings.

We are a non-profit organization and support various organizations such as Veterans housing, RCEL, Firefighters Burn Fund, John Traverse Cornwell VC Cadet Corps, bursaries for students in the community, sponsor children to attend various camps, Shriners Pipes & Drums, local church projects, hockey, football and dart programs and much more.

This past year has been very busy and I anticipate another busy year forthcoming. I want to acknowledge Susan Smith, 2009 President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the support the Ladies Auxiliary provides the Legion. Without their support and hard work, many of the events at the Legion would not be possible. I also want extend welcome to Marty Harochaw, 2010 Ladies Auxiliary President. To the wonderful women of the Auxiliary, past and present – you have helped the Legion achieve many milestones that make this Legion as successful as it is today. Your hard work, commitment and dedication do not go unnoticed. Thank you to the members and non members (membership forms available at the bar) for your great support. I look forward to seeing you all at the Branch for our regular and special events – and invite you friends. Everyone welcome!

In Comradeship,
Larry Kisiloski

President, West Kildonan Legion
